Our History

Since our establishment, 2nd Timperley has been a cornerstone of scouting in the area. Over the decades, we’ve seen countless young Scouts pass through our ranks, each one leaving with new skills, lifelong friends, and unforgettable memories.

Our commitment to the values of the Scout Association—Integrity, Respect, Care, Belief, and Cooperation—has remained steadfast throughout the years.

In 1934 Timperley was a very different place from what it is today. Where many of us live now was green fields, but the area was being rapidly built up and the need was felt for a Scout Group in the growing community. The new Congregational Church decided to meet this and a Troop of eight boys was formed, meeting for the first time on 5th October 1934. The Troop was officially recognised on 5th March 1935.

During this pre-war period, numbers steadily increased and a good all round standard of scouting was achieved. One of our earliest records is of a cycle ride through snow covered Cheshire.

By February 1937 the younger brothers of these Scouts were clamouring for their own section, and the Cub Pack was formed.

Troop activity was limited over the war, but the group quickly regrew with the opening of new headquarters behind the church, and two members of the group being selected to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Paris 1947.

The group continued to thrive, by the mid 1960’s it was clear that the 1947 wooden hut was nearing the end of its life. Funds were raised to enable the group to build the present HQ building, opening in 1975 at a cost of £9,000.

The early 1980s saw the introduction of beavers to the group, widening the availability of Scouting to a younger generation of boys.

As we entered the 1990’s the group grew to its largest, with two beaver, two cub and one scout section. Today we are thriving, with one of each section, and a fantastic team of leaders and supporters.
